Gestalt Letters 6/10

Closure:  The first design shows Closure as I used O's to create a design that would show a figure and an X with white color to show negative space and create an opening. Closure means  people will fill in blanks to perceive a complete object whenever an external stimulus partially matches that object. This shows Closure as mentally and visually, our eyes tend to close the O and create a circle in our minds despite it being incomplete, which the X creates in the overall design. I used the letter O since it was easy to cut up and still be able to see the shape of a circle.  Continuity:  The second design shows Continuity because I used the letter S to create wavy lines that show a continuous line. Continuity means we are more likely to see continuous and smooth flowing lines rather than broken or jagged ones. I placed S's overlapping each other to establish that look and makes wave-like lines which was inspired by a friend of mine and that's what I wanted to demonstrate ab

Reflection:  In my InDesign assignment, I used terms that relate to Design because it was simple and effective to differentiate how the words look in capitals and different sizes. The spacing in between the margins and the words make a huge difference because it creates a uniform look and very pleasing to the eye. As the first time using InDesign, I was familiar with it as I've used Photoshop before which is similar but less focused on typography therefore it was easy to navigate around the settings and buttons. Overall, it was a great experience with creating this work and using InDesign.

Reflection:  While creating this typography design for the second time around, I did not give any of these letters meaning but I did want to practice using a sharp letter which is the A in Bodoni (Modern) font style, a O in Baskerville (Transitional) font style and an X in the Helvetica (San Serifs) font style as well. I wanted to work on making precise lines with the A and have the correct sizing from the cap line to the base line. I did the O in attempts of getting the angle or stress slanted inside of the O. As for the X, I wanted to also work on the correct overlapping of the two lines that make up the X. The A is an uppercase and the O & X are lowercase.

Reflection:  When I was in the process of creating this abstract typography assignment, I thought about creating a meaningful piece of art work, although I will be creating another piece but as of now, I chose the letters B, A, and M. I had chosen them for no specific reason but I really wanted to draw a B to symbolize my initial from my first name. I was satisfied with the placement of the A since it created a grid-like base for the other two letters. I also chose the M because I thought about the word “Mom” and decided to just draw the letter M rather than my mother’s first initial since I really liked the M in the Bodoni (Modern) font. Therefore that’s what the three letters symbolize for me and what they stand for in my artwork.
